How to Apply Spoiler Tags to Hide Messages and Images on Discord

How to Apply Spoiler Tags to Hide Messages and Images on Discord

While Discord is fantastic for getting up with friends in supportive community servers, not everyone will find your messages to be appropriate. Fortunately, you can initially hide some messages using spoiler tags.

In your browser, the Discord client for Windows, Linux, or Mac, or the Discord client for Android, iPhone, or iPad, spoiler tags provide formatting to your Discord chats.

Spoiler Tags

Text Messages in Discord Can Now Have Spoiler Tags

Spoiler tags can be added in a variety of ways to text messages sent within a Discord server. Any platform, including mobile apps for Android, iPhone, or iPad, can be used to carry out the instructions below.

Type “/spoiler” at the beginning of a text message to add a spoiler tag. In a Discord server, sending “/spoiler this is a spoiler message” will make the message invisible until the receivers choose to view it.

Alternatively, you can start and end your message with two vertical bars. As an example, the message “this is a spoiler message” would likewise be shown as a spoiler.

Click or tap on a spoiler message in a Discord chat to view it. A grey background will be visible behind the message, which will be highlighted.

On Windows or Mac, adding spoiler tags to images or attachments

  • To photographs or other attachments you send on a Discord channel, spoiler tags can also be added. For this type of content, the procedures mentioned above won’t work, but you can mark files and photographs as spoilers before uploading them.
  • Drag and drop your file into the server conversation in the Discord desktop software or on the website to do this, or click the addition sign (+) next to the chat bar.
  • Before sending the message in the conversation, a preview of the attached file will appear. A spoiler tag can be added in two different ways to a file or image that you send through Discord.
  • Each file has three buttons: an eye, a pencil (or pen), and a garbage can. Applying a spoiler tag is as simple as clicking the eye-shaped button.
  • Alternatively, you can use the pencil symbol to edit the file name, add an alt text or description, or apply a spoiler tag.
  • After sending the image or file, tick the “Mark as Spoiler” box to make it disappear. Then click “Save.”
  • The image or file will show up on Discord after being submitted, hidden behind spoiler tags. To ignore the spoiler view and examine the file, click “Spoiler.”
  • By doing this, the spoiler tag is removed and the image or file is displayed normally.

On an Android or iPhone, adding spoiler tags to images or attachments

  • In mobile operating systems, Discord also permits the addition of spoiler tags to photos or files. Tap the image after you click the tiny plus sign.
  • To close the extra options, tap the tiny box next to “Mark as Spoiler,” then swipe down from the popup’s top.
  • On Android or iOS, you may tap a spoiler-tagged image to reveal it, just like on desktop programs.
  • However, the Discord chat offers more features than only spoiler tags. Additionally, it allows markdown text formatting, GIFs, personalized emoticons, and personalized chat reactions. Learning how to use all of Discord’s features is worthwhile given how frequently people connect over text.

How to Use the feature Facebook Messenger “Secret Conversations”

facebook-messenger-secret-conversations

You may make sure that your calls and texts are end-to-end encrypted so that only the sender and the recipient can access them by using Facebook Messenger’s “Secret Conversations” feature. We’ll demonstrate how to use this function on an iPhone or Android device.

What Are “Secret Conversations” in Messenger Used For?

Messenger encrypts your calls and messages as soon as you send them when you enable the “Secret Conversations” option with a user. Only the recipient’s phone can decrypt these contents after that. This makes sure that nobody, not even Meta, may access the chat’s contents without having physical access to either your phone or the phone of the recipient.

How Does Encryption Work and What Is It?

A conventional chat and a secret one are separated by that encryption. Your encrypted messages are hidden from prying eyes even if someone manages to access Meta’s servers. Your regular chats may be viewed because they are still stored on Meta’s servers in an unencrypted format.

However, Meta limits who you can communicate privately with. You cannot initiate such a discussion as of the time of writing in August 2022 with organizations, accounts that are used professionally, Instagram profiles that are linked to Messenger, or new contacts. Additionally, you and your chat partner must both be using the most recent version of Messenger, so be sure to update Messenger on both of your devices.

Furthermore, several features that you might be accustomed to won’t function in one of these chats. According to Meta, payments in cash and group communications are not permitted during private discussions. If those restrictions cause you issues, check into secure communication alternatives that may provide the services you require.

Launch a Secret Chat on iPhone, iPad, and Android’s Messenger

Launch the Messenger app on your phone to start a new confidential conversation with someone.

Tap the pencil icon in the top-right corner of the Messenger app.

Secret Conversations new-message-messenger

A “New Message” screen will appear. Turn on the “Secret Conversations” option here in the top-right corner.

Enter the name of the person you wish to conduct a secret chat within the “To” area on the same page. Select that individual from the list after that.

Your chosen person and you will begin a new conversation. Your calls and messages during this chat will be encrypted end-to-end. As normal, you can start sending messages.

How can you begin a blog using Joomla

One of the most widely used content management systems (CMS) in the world is Joomla (opens in a new tab). It is an appealing blogging platform that is open-source, free to use and provides. It can be a little difficult to learn and utilize, though.

We’ve put together a step-by-step tutorial on create a blog with Joomla to assist you in getting started. Although it can initially look challenging, you don’t require any advanced technical or coding knowledge. To utilize this top CMS to its best potential, it is worthwhile to persevere.

How to start a blog with Joomla

How can you begin a blog using Joomla

There are a few things you should do before starting your blog. Select a web hosting company first (opens in a new tab). We used Hostinger, a highly regarded host offering plans starting at $1.99 per month (opens in new tab).

The Joomla CMS must then be installed on your hosting server. With only a few clicks, Hostinger’s clean auto-installer lets you install Joomla on your website. On your hPanel control panel, just locate the Auto Installer button, and then adhere to the instructions. Or, check out Hostinger’s comprehensive guide to setting up Joomla (opens in a new tab).

Many trustworthy web providers provide one-click installation in one form or another. Although some hosts have their programs, this is frequently done using the one-click Softaculous installation (opens in a new tab). In the absence of one-click installation, you ought should be able to manually install the Joomla script.

Step 1: Look for and set up a template

Joomla doesn’t have a central template library, unlike the majority of other CMSs. You must therefore locate a third-party template. Thankfully, there are plenty of free and paid solutions accessible, and a short search should turn up numerous results.

It’s time to upload the template you’ve chosen. Select the Extensions link from the Install section of the System menu. Upload your template files directly or through a URL.

It’s time to upload the template you’ve chosen. Select the Extensions link from the Install section of the System menu. Wait a few minutes as the template files install after adding them through direct upload or URL.

Step 2: Make your design unique

Next, we advise you to tweak the appearance of your blog. Get at least your fundamental layout down; it doesn’t need to be perfect just yet. Joomla customization without coding expertise can be a little challenging, however, the majority of themes come with simple design tools. These are accessible by selecting Site Templates Styles from the System menu.

When you choose a template to change, you will have access to several modification tools. These differ by template, so you might want to consider customizing options while choosing a theme.

Step 3: Create site menus

With Joomla, making and changing site menus is quite simple. You can create new menus, adjust existing menus, and modify how they operate using a menu tab on the main dashboard taskbar.

Step 4: Add content

The next step is creating content, which is crucial for launching a new blog (opens in a new tab). There is a large content section with many tools on the Joomla dashboard, but we’ll let you look around on your own. Click on the Articles option in the Content menu to start adding new articles.

This page contains a list of all of your blog posts (articles). These may need to be modified, featured, archived, or deleted. Additionally, a Hits column displays how many times each post has been seen.

Press the New+ button to start a new article. Because Joomla employs a straightforward text-based blog editor, there aren’t many layout options available, at least initially. However, there are many additional things you may customize, and you can add HTML code to alter the layout or add more subtle personalizations. If necessary, you can additionally give each article tags and categories.

Step 5- Create blog sections

By classifying your blogs, you may make it simple for visitors to find the kind of information they’re looking for. With a category-specific management panel, Joomla makes this quite simple.

Here, you may set up access limits, add and remove categories, and copy already-existing categories to new ones (for when more than one person has CMS access). Additionally, each category’s number of published, unpublished, archived, and destroyed articles is visible.

Step 6: If necessary, add extensions

You should now have a working blog, though it probably still only has very minimal features. The Joomla extensions can help in this situation. Over 400 social networking extensions are among the dozens of plugins and add-ons available in the Joomla Extensions Directory that you can use to enhance the functionality of your website.

Consider the scenario where you wish to include a photo gallery on your homepage. You can achieve this using the 130+ various gallery extensions. Examine the best choices, hone your search using the filters, and install the appealing choice by following the on-screen directions.

Last Verdict

The process of setting up a blog with Joomla is rather simple, especially if you use a host like Hostinger that allows one-click installation. Even though the UI can be challenging to understand, it’s worthwhile to persevere to discover Joomla’s actual potential.

How to Make New Tabs in Firefox Compatible with Dark Mode

How to Make New Tabs in Firefox Compatible with Dark Mode

If you adore Mozilla Firefox and use dark mode for eye-friendly late-night browsing, you’ve probably run across a problem: opening new tabs and loading new sites causes you to become blind. Here’s how to create new tabs compatible with dark mode.

Great for Dark Mode, but Not for the White “Flash”

Despite numerous bug updates over the past few years, a problem with Firefox’s dark mode still exists. You might not be familiar with this issue if you don’t regularly utilize dark mode. If you are—and I know I am—you’re probably overjoyed to learn there’s a straightforward fix that works whether the bug is eliminated or not.

When you open a new blank tab, Firefox is always blindingly white, even in dark mode.

Even worse, there is a momentary “flash” before a web page starts where the default white backdrop blasts dazzling white light at you. This happens even when the page supports dark mode.

Even while it might not seem like a big deal, it might be startling when your workstation has been properly adjusted to prevent your very bright monitor from blinding you with dazzling white light.

So forget being shocked when you work calmly in dark mode late at night. To put an end to those high-lumen sneak attacks, let’s implement a quick patch.

<!–more Keep on reading!–>

Instead of using browser extensions, change your Chrome

When it comes to your web browser, it is always better if you can fix a problem in the easiest way possible with the least amount of danger. Browser add-ons are a privacy and security nightmare.

You don’t have to completely avoid them, but it is a good idea to limit yourself to add-ons and extensions that have undergone thorough examination and verification. Avoiding arbitrary additions from unknown writers is always a good idea.

In light of this, we were thrilled to discover a ridiculously easy solution to our issue without the need to look for (and examine the code of) an extension specifically created for the job.

The answer? utilizing the userChrome.css and userContent.css files, a helpful small browser modification tool that is already included in Firefox.

An indication of what we’re about to do may be found in the first file name, which is a user-supplied style sheet for the browser chrome. We’ll also, in the interest of thoroughness, be changing the userContent.css (the Chrome web browser is named after the browser chrome and it’s a bit of a joke, at that.)

Enable support for legacy style

We need to turn on a configuration parameter first for our small adjustment to be effective. If you skip this stage, you’ll be furiously tearing your hair out when none of the modifications we make have any effect.

The configuration files for your specific Firefox installation must first be found. In the address bar of Firefox, type about: profiles. This will provide a convenient straight link to the root directory for your profile as well as a list of all your Firefox browser profiles.

Click the “Open Folder” button next to the list entry for “Root Directory” after selecting the profile you want to apply this dark mode adjustment to.

YourUserName is your Windows username, and ProfileName is an alphanumeric string created by Firefox, such as fxxd088p.default-release. For Windows users, this directory will appear something like C: Users[YourUserName]AppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfiles[ProfileName].

Make files for the Chrome Directory and Styles

There are several variations of this exact problem’s style sheet solutions floating about, some of which are unnecessarily complicated, but we’ve been utilizing the basic code snippets supplied by GitHub user gmolveau for years with great success and advise you to do the same.

Make a new subdirectory called chrome in the profile directory. Within that directory, we will create two style sheet files.

In that directory, make a new blank text document and paste the following code into it:

Name your saved file userChrome.css. The bright white flicker that happens in between page loads will be fixed by this line of code.

Copy this code into a different blank text document

Name your saved file userContent.css. By using this piece of code, blank tabs will always be a very dark muted grey color rather than a stark white.

Using the right RGB and hex codes, you may swap out the muted grey for any other color you like. For example, you may change each occurrence of 19, 19, 20 in the previous sentence to 0, 0, 0, and each occurrence of #131314 to #0A0A0A.

Or you might choose neon green: 117, 225, 51 #75FF33 if you wanted to vote for complete anarchy. A straightforward RGB picker can be used to choose the appropriate codes for any color you desire.

Simply restart Firefox after creating the necessary files for the changes to take effect (if they don’t, double-check that you enabled legacy support as instructed in the first step).

You can now test it, by entering about: blank in the address bar, you may see what color the blank tab is in your Firefox installation.

It’s more difficult to test the “flash” that loads the page. The simplest approach to test it is to open a few links from a web page in new tabs after visiting the page in question.

In the screenshot above, you can see how the color shift between page loads is no longer white but the muted grey we chose. Sometimes it’s difficult to notice, especially on a fast connection to an optimized web page, but if you load a few, you should be able to notice the color difference.

After reading all of this, if you still want to use dark mode everywhere, this is the ideal time to do so.

How to move data from an old PC to a new PC ~ Transfer Files Tricks

how-to-move-data-from-an-old-pc-to-a-new-pc

It’s pretty typical to transfer data from an old computer to a new PC. It’s always alluring to upgrade to a quicker, slimmer, and shinier device, but you don’t want to lose all the data you’ve collected in the process. No issue we will share with you transfer files tricks. There are several techniques that we’ve listed here so that you can move your data from an old PC to a new PC.

move data from an old PC to a new PC

  • Utilize OneDrive to move your data

Use of the cloud storage platform OneDrive is among the simplest ways to back up and move your data. 5GB of free storage is yours automatically if you have a Microsoft account. Because OneDrive is already a part of Windows, integrating it into your routine is a breeze.

5GB, however, is a small amount of capacity for a backup, particularly if your previous PC is a relic. Microsoft also has other reasonably priced choices with a lot more storage. A Personal subscription to Microsoft 365 will cost you roughly $7 per month (or $70 annually) for 1TB of space, compared to about $2 per month for 100GB. Microsoft 365 Family also comes with 1TB of storage for six users and full access to Microsoft 365 for $10 a month (or $100 a year). For further details, see how Microsoft 365 contrasts with Office 2021.

As long as you have an internet connection, moving files and folders between PCs is simple, and you can rest easy knowing that your data is safeguarded against hard disc failure. The only drawback is that your settings and applications won’t transfer over to your new PC.

  • When transferring data, make use of an external hard drive

You can have a backup of your data in case something goes wrong by transferring your data from an old PC to a new PC using an external hard drive. If you already have an external drive laying around, you can transfer your files without paying additional money, even if this mostly manual method might take a little longer.

Simply connect your hard drive to your old computer, transfer your files and folders to the drive, plug it into your new computer, and repeat the process. It’s important to note that using an external hard drive prevents you from transferring your Windows settings or applications.

Check out our list of the top external hard drives right now if you’re interested in utilizing one to back up and move your data.

  • To transfer your data, use a transfer cable

There is a somewhat affordable alternative that allows you to move your data between Windows XP and Windows 10 if you don’t want to pay for cloud storage or an external hard drive.

Two USB-A 3.0 male connections are used to connect this $60 Windows transfer cable from Plugable to each PC. The bundled program will guide you through transferring your data, settings, user accounts, and directories once the PCs are connected.

If neither PC has a USB 3.0 port, Plugable offers a USB 2.0 alternative. Please take note that when using a transfer cable, your files are not backed up before being moved.

  • To transfer your data, use PCmover

Microsoft used to offer a service called Easy Transfer for Windows 7 and Windows 8 that let users transfer their files and settings between PCs using a physical USB transfer cable, a set of DVDs, an external hard drive, or a network.

Sadly, Easy Transfer was discontinued in Windows 10, but don’t worry; Microsoft collaborated with Laplink PCmover to replicate that functionality, though it is now charged for.

You can choose which user profiles, data, and settings you wish to move to your new PC using the Express version. After that, all you have to do is link the two PCs to the internet and wait for the data to transfer. Although PCmover will try to mimic the appearance of your old computer, there may be some differences depending on the age of the OS you’re coming from. There is support available around-the-clock to help you if something goes wrong.

The complete range of applications cannot be transferred between PCs using this version of PCmover. All versions of Windows, up to and including Windows 10, are compatible with it. Remember that when your files are transferred, PCmover does not make a backup of them.

Utilize Macrium Reflect to create a hard drive backup

An exact clone of your previous hard drive is effectively made on a new drive, whether external or internal, via a process known as PC cloning. On your new PC, a drive that has been closed should be able to be connected and booted.

There are several cloning tools available, however, Macrium Reflect worked best for us. There are several versions available, including a free version that is suitable for casual users, a home version with four usage licenses, a free commercial version, and paid choices at various pricing points.

Check out our tutorial on how to directly clone your old drive to use in a new PC if you’re interested in doing so.

  • Switch to Nearby Sharing from HomeGroup

HomeGroup was discontinued in the April 2018 Update for Windows 10. A new feature called Nearby Sharing, which uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet to transmit files between nearby PCs, has replaced it in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Your PC should have it turned on by default, and you may adjust the settings to set it up just how you want.

While nearby sharing is excellent for moving files to a new computer, it does not function in the same way as, for instance, cloning, which duplicates your entire system—including Windows 10 and your data—in one step. If you want to test out this feature, be sure to read our comprehensive guide on how to utilize Windows 10’s Nearby Sharing to move files across PCs. Furthermore, if you’re using Windows 11, our advice on how to use nearby sharing is what you need.

  • Flip Transfer is a rapid, cost-free sharing tool

Flip Transfer can perform the task for you for no cost if you need to transfer up to 50 files at once that are each less than 250MB in size swiftly and easily. Simply open the Flip Transfer website using your choice browser, drag and drop certain files, and then use a specific FLIP-ID to access and download them on a different PC.

Flip Transfer is highly practical and compatible with a wide range of devices, but it won’t provide the same experience as, say, cloning, when all apps and settings are transferred to a new PC.
